I work with fiction, essays, web content, and some nonfiction projects. If you're not sure whether your project is a good fit, feel free to reach out. I'll let you know if I'm the right editor for the job.
What kind of editing do I need?
That depends on where your project is in the writing process.
- Developmental editing addresses big-picture elements like structure, pacing, and character development.
- Line editing improves style, flow, and clarity at the sentence level.
- Copyediting fixes grammar, consistency, and readability while preserving your voice.
- Proofreading catches lingering errors after everything else is finished.

How much does professional editing cost?
My project estimates are based on a per word pricing table. The final cost depends on the level of editing, genre, word count, and how much work your manuscript needs.
Before we start, I'll send you a clear, no-pressure quote with the recommended service, estimated cost, and timeline.
How do I know if my manuscript is ready for an editor?
Your manuscript is ready when you've worked it into the best shape possible on your own. By then, you've probably revised it a few times, maybe had some beta readers take a crack at it, and tackled the issues you already know are there.
I'm nervous about sharing my work. Is that normal?
So very normal. As a writer, I understand how personal your work can be. You've loved, you've labored, and now you're sending your creation into the world. I'll tell you what's working and what could use more thought, and I'll do it kindly.
The Editing Process
What file formats do you work with?
I generally work with Microsoft Word documents using Track Changes. Your manuscript should be set to 12-point Times New Roman, double spaced with 1” margins.
If you need your work edited in another file format, please let me know when you submit your request.
What does your editing process look like?
Every project is a little different, but my process typically includes a consultation, a detailed quote, a contract and deposit, one or more rounds of editing, and time for you to review and respond to my edits.
How long will it take you to edit my project?
Turnaround time depends on several factors: length, genre, scope of editing, and how many projects I have scheduled. A 10,000-word novella may only take a business day to proofread, while a full line edit for an 80,000-word novel could take several weeks.
What if I'm unhappy with my edit?
If something doesn't seem right or you'd like clarification on an edit, please reach out! I'm happy to explain my reasoning, answer questions, and correct any genuine mistakes.
Policies
What's your policy on AI?
I don't use AI to edit client work. Writing deserves the kind of eye and editorial judgment that automated tools can't duplicate. Your work won't see the inside of a generative engine on my watch.
I edit writing created by people. If you've used AI as a brainstorming or research tool, that's perfectly fine. However, I don't accept projects that are heavily or entirely AI-written.
Do you guarantee publication or representation?
No. While professional editing can strengthen your manuscript, no editor can ethically guarantee publication, representation, or commercial success.
Will my work be used as a case study or portfolio piece?
Not without your permission. I might ask whether I can share a small, anonymized excerpt of your manuscript or discuss my approach as part of a case study or portfolio piece. This is completely optional, and I'll never share your work publicly without your consent.
Will you keep my manuscript confidential?
1000%. I won't share, distribute, or talk about your manuscript with anyone else without your permission. Your work is your intellectual property through every stage of the editing process.
